JOYRIDE
SPECIAL DOUBLE CD to accompany the book Good Morning, Aztlán: The Words, Pictures & Songs Of Louie Pérez
CLICK HERE TO READ THE PRESS RELEASE
Nearly two hours of various artists covering the words and music of Louie Pérez. Song interpretations intermixed with recitations of Louie's poems, stories, and lyrics — plus new erasure poems from Louie’s song lyrics created by Grant Hier specifically for this project, which Louie and Grant are calling Aztlán Alchemy. The result is patchwork portrait of the American landscape, sewn from the Aztec roots of "27 Spanishes" (the story of the conquest of Mexico in 1 minute and 55 seconds) and the original Nuhuatl language of “Wake of Dolores” (telling the universal story of diaspora and the quest for home), to the porches and streets of City Terrace in East Los Angeles. These are universal stories of homeland — of friends, families, and the relationships that bind us all.
Proceeds will benefit Tía Chucha’s Centro Cultural & Bookstore,
a community arts 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation.

"Young Warriors" was created to meet the needs of the young people living in the low-income communities as a safe, judgment-free space, in which people from all walks of life, and contribute to the betterment of their community. The Young Warriors vision is to empower a generation of community leaders capable of expressing their mental, emotional and physical needs to live balanced, purposeful and wholesome lives.
